This weekend was cut short due to our upcoming Lutherland trip. Everyone split up to do short trips all over Europe again. One group went to Ireland, another to Vienna, but we went to Switzerland! :)
Suzanne visited her friend who is studying abroad in Switzerland. Andrea, Abby, Anna and I went to Interlaken for two days and one night! We left early Friday morning and got in at around 2. The train ride in was breathtaking! The tracks were right next to the waters edge, so it looked like we were riding on the water. I have never seen such crystal clear, blue water before. AND it was in the mountains. All around us, 360 degrees, were snow-capped gorgeous peaks! The entire town was very visually stimulating!
We got there in the afternoon and found our hostel. We walked all around the cute little town of Interlaken. It is like no other town I've seen. I really enjoyed it...very quaint and peaceful. No one was in a hurry for anything. We found the information center to see what kind of fun activities they had to offer and we were amazed. They had every type of outdoorsy activity you could think of. From skiing to sky diving to white water rafting. But due to it still being cold, most of that doesn't open until the summer...bummer.
After walking around, we wanted to hike, but were afraid we'd get caught with the sun going down, so we decided to just walk and wander in the more rural part of the city. We walked a ways and then walked back along the river going right through town. We stopped and decided to adventure a little. The water was so enticing, so we took our shoes and socks off, rolled up our pant legs and did a little wading. The water was FRIGID COLD! It was almost painful... but we had a great time, there were swans swimming past every five minutes. They got SO close to us, it was amazing. We had a lot of good laughs in the river. :) We found our way back to the hostel, got a quick bite to eat, and headed to bed. We made it an early night!
The next day we got up early and went to see if we could rent some bikes! We found a great place and went for a wonderful ride. Non of us have been on a bike in a really long time, so it was very refreshing. We rode to one of the lakes of Interlaken and just sat and took in the beautiful scenery. It was truly beautiful with the mountains and the turquoise blue water. Unfortunately, just after noon, a storm began rolling in so we had to cut our fun day short. :( We had fun while it lasted, but we all definitely want to go back some day in the summer time so we can enjoy all Interlaken has to offer!
We spent all day today (Sunday) working on future projects that are due and preparing for our class trip that starts tomorrow at 6:50 am until next Sunday night. We are traveling with Herr Becker all over Germany to see the main sites that are important in the story of Martin Luther, since we are taking History/Theology with him right now. We have named it the "Lutherland Trip!" We have a free day and are taking a day trip to Prague in the Czech Republic because we will be very close to that border while on this trip. We will definitely update you all soon enough!
Have a wonderful week and we will update the blog again when we get back from LutherLand!
Love you all!
Lauren & the girls :)
