State Trip to Northern Germany!

Andrea and I took a trip together to northern Germany to visit our two states (which were right near each other). Schleswig-Holstein and Lower Saxony! We were the only two to leave on Thursday right after class because we had an 8 hour train ride straight through the day! ah. But we got a ton of homework done and read the book we needed to have done for this week of class. Our first stop was Kiel! It is right on the Baltic Sea and the town was so cute! We got in late and were so nervous our hostel wasn't going to let us in, but we walked swiftly and found it. It was so cute because it was family owned and there were only three rooms they rented out and we had our own bed with our own room and a nice shower and everything. Great choice! The next day we walked around and saw the town. It was obvious that the entire town was dedicated to cruise lines, sailboats, and fishing. The Baltic Sea was it's main attraction! It was gorgeous and the air was just so fresh! We went to the local aquarium and saw SEALS! They were so cute and were showing off for us! haha. Since we were only going to be near the Baltic Sea that one time, we thought we HAD to say we've touched it, but the only problem was that all the docks were closed off for the winter. After talking about it, we decided to be mischievous and hop a little fence (it was only knee high...) and quickly touch the Baltic Sea. We both did it successfully and even documented each other performing this rebellious act on camera! It was exciting... :)

Later in the afternoon we took a train to a nearby town, Lubeck, and toured around there also. It was a quaint little town with the largest chuch I have ever seen. It was monsterous and so old. It was gorgeous. Then we took the train back and had dinner at the amazing Vapiano italian restaurant and called it a night.

The next morning we woke up and caught the train to Hannover, which is in Lower Saxony. We got into the train station and there were mobs of people wearing blue and white jersey's, scarves and hats! They were all carrying around cases of beer and chanting in German! We obviously couldn't understand them but it was crazy. We decided there must be some sort of sports match going on in Hannover that day because all over the city there were these colors and people chanting! It made the experience really exciting! We then took a tram to our hotel (yes we got a hotel for the same price as a hostel! It was so amazing!) and we passed out for the night. It was so nice to just relax. All that touring gets so tiring!!

The next morning we woke up and went to Braunschweig. It wasn't far from Hannover and toured this city in while it was snowing out! It was cold and Sunday, so nothing was going on! It was so dead. But we got to see some pretty amazing buildings and famous sights! Then we headed back to the RT on a 4 our train ride which was one I know neither of us will EVER forget.

Overall, we were so proud that we never got lost/ missed any trains the entire weekend because we had to many transitions at different train stations! We all feel we've learned so much about traveling in such a short amount of time. It amazes all of us! It's such a rewarding feeling!

Off to study German, our first test is tomorrow!

Tschuuuuuuuuuus!

Lauren & Andrea
