Hallo from the RT! :)

Today kicked off with 2 classes taught by Herr Becker.  We studied Martin Luther during Theology & Adolf Hitler in German Studies.  We are learning soooo much each day.  I didn't know my brain could consume this much knowledge... and luckily, it is very interesting! We looked at old pictures of Hitler and one was of him at the Olympic games in Berlin... where we had just been!  Lauren showed me the picture of him standing and greeting the fans, it gave me the chills.  We were also learning about how most Germans didn't even really know what was going on when the Jews were shipped out East.  It's hard to fathom how horrific the entire experience must have been.

Our group (well... not Andrea, she hasn't been feeling top notch) went to the Irish Pub last night to celebrate our first German (Spanish as I call it:)) test being over!  It was such a fun night... once again!  This time, we decided to branch out a little bit and we met almost every person at the bar.  It was fun to meet people that are from the city with which we are occupying right now.  They shared with us places to see and things to do- and also did a little bit of laughing at our German language.  Maybe after test 2 it will get better?! :) To show how small of a world it is, our travel partner, Sam, met a kid who did an exchange program in Grand Rapids, MI and played her high school in baseball! Needless to say, there was so much to talk about.  Lauren and I ended up walking back with Sam and another friend.  All of the other students from Valpo that have studied here previously told us to walk all the time because its just a quick 20 minute  hike and the scenery is very nice.  They were right... now if only it would warm up a little bit more!

Tonight has consisted of just hanging out, cooking dinner (which I am becoming a pro at... thanks to the girls!) and chatting.  We'll see where the night swings us, but for now, guten Nacht!

Ciao :)
Anna

  1. Germany gals, We love reading the stories about your adventures, as well as "life" at Reutlingen. What a blessing for us to have your blog and for you to use as a journal to keep for posterity. Unc Keith enjoyed chatting with you, Anna. Hope we can do that sometime in the next week or so. Matt and Jackie are back from Costa Rica. Granny is coming down to spend sometime tomorrow (Sun.) to hear about their trip and chow for supper. We're going shopping Mon. and she will be going to your Dad's game and Unc Keith and I have Nora Puglia's 60th surprise bd. party. Can't tell you how much we enjoy reading about your trip.
Miss ya and love ya much.
